Sports scholarship have always been competitively pursued in America, there just aren’t enough of them to go around. These days golf is becoming increasingly popular, and with more and more students becoming interested in the sport, it can be pretty difficult to find a USA golf scholarship. They do exist, but they’re not that easy to catch, if you get the drift, and even if you do manage to catch a golf scholarship it is very unlikely that it will be a full scholarship.

High school girls may get the chance to be considered for a scholarship for golf, sponsored by The Women’s Western Golf Foundation. The scholarship is open for US citizens only who want to attend an accredited post secondary educational institution. As well as the preliminary application, candidates must also apply for the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). This girl’s golf scholarship is awarded based on financial need and academic record, with the students’ participation in golf important but they do not necessarily need to show any particular talent or ability.

Securing Golf Scholarships

The sport of golf is an equivalency sport, which means that one golfing person will not necessarily receive the full golf scholarship; it may be shared out between many different golfers at one college or university. Every little helps, but for many it simply isn’t enough of a help. Because the popularity of golf has increased so has the standard, there are more and more young people seen across golf courses in the evenings and on weekends which means that the competition for scholarships is even more fierce, and the standard of golf has also improved – you’ve got to be really good to stand out from the crowd these days.

If any youngsters are seriously thinking of trying to bag a golf scholarship, then they need to plan ahead, the sooner the better. Competing at an early age in local competitions can help to give you the edge you will need, especially if you have the ability to progress to state and even national levels of competition. The national competitions held over America by the American Junior Golf Association have seen almost 70% of their young competitors able to secure some kind of golfing scholarship, it’s all about being seen in the right places and making a name for yourself, for the right reasons of course, like Tiger Woods did - in the beginning at least.
